Vikings use big sixth inning to beat Liners, 10-4By: An eight-run explosion in the sixth inning lifted the Southland Vikings (7-10) to a 10-4 win over the DeKalb County Liners (12-7) at Founders Field on Sunday.
Down 3-1 heading into the sixth inning, the Vikings had 12 batters come up to the plate recording five hits as well as taking advantage of two Liners' errors to blow the game wide open. The biggest hit was Chris Stevens' 3-run double, which gave them a 9-3 lead. Stevens ended the game going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. In fact, the Vikings had a very balanced offensive attack as every batter recorded a hit and all but one of them crossed the plate to score. Charlie Naso got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed one earned run over four innings while striking out four. After a day off, the Vikings will head to Waubonsee Community College on Tuesday to take on the Chicago Zephyrs who they are 2-0 against. |
