Vikings outhit Oilmen but still drop their fourth straightBy: The Northwest Indiana Oilmen (4-2) took the early lead over the Southland Vikings (1-4) and held on for an 8-4 win at Oil City Stadium.
Billy Miller got on base four times in the game for the Oilmen. He singled in the 1st, 5th, and 8th innings. The Oilmen used aggressive baserunning throughout the game including Elliot Bajda stealing home plate in the 2nd inning. They finished with 10 stolen bases and were up 6-1 going into the 7th. The Vikings were led by Chris Stevens' hitting. Stevens went 3-4 including a solo home run in the 4th. The Vikings used a 3-run, 2 out rally in the 7th inning to cut the lead down to 2 but the Oilmen got those runs back in the bottom of the 8th. Joshua Negele improved to 1-0, allowing four runs over seven innings. Negele also struck out six, walked one and gave up nine hits. Jason Ziegler was charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked four and struck out seven. He also had three balks. The Vikings have now lost four in a row and will look to get back on the winning side as they head to Rockford to take on the Foresters at 7 o'clock. |
