Hickey's Grandslam leads Vikings over Oilmen

The Southland Vikings and Northwest Indiana Oilmen both had scoring chances on Thursday, but it was the Southland Vikings that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 7-5 win at Oil City Stadium.

Northwest Indiana Oilmen out-hit Southland Vikings  11 to six, but Northwest Indiana Oilmen stranded 11 runners on base. The Southland Vikings would not relinquish the lead as Northwest Indiana Oilmen was unable to weather a six-run third inning deficit.

Northwest Indiana Oilmen scored on a two-run double by Fred Smart in the sixth inning, a sacrifice fly by Zack Jones in the eighth inning, and an RBI single by Stefano Belmonte and an RBI single by Smart in the ninth inning. Unfortunately, Northwest Indiana Oilmen wasn't able to take the lead back. Jake Hickey racked up four RBIs on one hit for the Southland Vikings. He homered in the second inning.

Matt Sandoval shut down Northwest Indiana Oilmen while he was on the mound. Northwest Indiana Oilmen managed just three hits off of the the Southland Vikings 's pitcher, who allowed two earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his six innings of work.

Brandon Murray took the loss for Northwest Indiana Oilmen . He allowed six runs in four innings, walked three and struck out four. The Southland Vikings went up for good in the second, scoring five runs on a home run by Hickey.

After posting one run in the third, the Southland Vikings again scored one in the seventh. In the third, the Southland Vikings scored on an RBI single by Jeff Cardenas, plating Chris Pikoulas.
